Overview

STARKIT SRD combines Sony's Spatial Reality Display with AMERIA's STARKIT camera mount and touch-free interaction. People browse and turn 3D products that float inside the display, with no glasses and no touchscreen.

It's built for retail floors, showrooms and trade fairs. Brands bring their own 3D products with variants, logo, QR codes and video, and publish them straight to the display — no headset, no touchscreen, just a product visitors can turn with their hands.

Challenge

Mid-air hand input has no touch, no click and no hover — so every action needs large, forgiving targets and clear visual feedback, or it simply feels broken.

The stereoscopic display adds depth: UI and products appear in front of and behind the glass, and the viewer's own hand moves through that space. Controls have to stay readable and reachable in depth, for first-time visitors who just walk up and try it.

Process

  1. Content from the cloud. Models are loaded at runtime from cloud storage, so a brand can swap products and variants without a new build.
  2. Each model set up for the display. Scale, default orientation, rotation limits and PBR materials — base, normal, metallic, roughness, AO — are set per model so it sits right in the 3D volume.
  3. A spatial UI control library. Buttons, sliders and panels built for hand input, driven by physics so they press, push back and respond like real objects in the display's depth.
  4. Tuned for glasses-free stereo. Rendering optimized for the display's stereoscopic output, with touch-free hand gestures to browse and turn products.
